Can I change the preview thumbnail when sharing my website link?

When sharing your website link via messaging services, you might find they will show a thumbnail preview pulled from your website. This image is pulled by them and will be the first image that matches their requirements. It cannot be customised, but there are some things that you can do to influence which image is picked.

First, you can make sure the image you wish to have as the preview is placed high up in your website. The closer to the top (excluding the header), the better chance of it being used.

The preview is showing an image you deleted

If the messaging app is picking up an image you have deleted, it will likely have cached (or, 'remembered') the image on their side. This usually gets updated over time. But if you want to speed that process up for WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger, you can head over to the Meta/Facebook debugging page (https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/), enter your website address and have their system re-check the information by clicking "Scrape Again".
