How to format phone numbers

When entering phone numbers in international format, ensure the number includes both the country code and the local number. Start with a ‘+’ symbol, followed by the country code, and then the local phone number.

Key Components:

  1. The ‘+’ Symbol: Always begin with a plus sign (‘+’). This indicates the number is in international format.
  2. Country Code: The country code identifies the destination country. Each country has a unique code.
  3. Local Number: The phone number within the destination country. Do not include leading zeros when entering the local number.

Examples:

  • Canada: Begin with the country code ‘+1’, followed by the 10-digit local number.
    • Example: +1 613 555 0123

United Kingdom: Use the country code ‘+44’, followed by the local number (without the leading zero).

    • Example: +44 20 7946 0958

Australia: Use the country code ‘+61’, followed by the local number (again, omit the leading zero).

    • Example: +61 402 987 654

Tips:

  • Ensure no spaces or special characters appear between the ‘+’ and the country code.
  • Double-check that the local number is complete and formatted without extra zeros.
  • If unsure of a country’s code, below are some common country codes, or you can check the list on Wikipedia here

    • United Kingdom: +44
